The Queer Agenda is a newsletter by Shohreh Davoodi.

Hello there and welcome to my glittery gay corner of the internet! 🌈✨

I’ve been reading and writing to better understand myself and the world around me since I was a little girl in big glasses.

While so much of my life has changed between then and now (I wear contacts these days, for starters), my drive to read and especially to write has been a constant.

I’ve written my thoughts and dreams and worries in diaries and journals. I’ve written about both the dramatic and the mundane parts of my life via online blogs like Xanga, Livejournal, and WordPress. I’ve written short notes and bulleted lists and long letters. I’ve written scholarly law school papers, a published Law Review article, and binding legal documents. I’ve written enough social media posts and captions to fill the pages of several books.

And for over six years, I’ve been writing a regular email newsletter, which now lives here: Welcome to The Queer Agenda on Substack!

About The Queer Agenda:

This is a newsletter dedicated to supporting and uplifting LGBTQIA+ folks (where our accomplices benefit too) by sharing thoughtful tools, strategies, advice, and encouragement to help us heal and come home to ourselves.

The content you’ll find here could be described as:

  • Equal parts warm hug, gentle kick in the ass, and queer magic.

  • A written embodiment of “Be Gay, Do Crime” but covered in glitter.

  • What it’s like when someone says the exact thing you needed to hear when you most needed to hear it.

I also write about what’s going on in my life and work and out in the greater world—honest reflections from my rainbow glitter bomb heart.

Free subscribers will get The Queer Agenda newsletter in their inboxes 1-2 times per month. Paid subscribers will get The Queer Agenda newsletter plus exclusive content like queer book reviews and curated playlists as well as the ability to leave comments and access the full archive of posts.

By paying to subscribe, you’re directly supporting me as a writer and creator, and you’re pushing back against the idea that content should always be free, regardless of the time, energy, and emotional labor it took to create it.

By giving you the option to pay to subscribe, I’m honoring both myself as a writer and the messy, murky, magical craft of writing I’ve been drawn to my entire life. I’m prioritizing my writing as something valuable and worth pursuing, and I’m requesting (optional) compensation in reciprocity for sharing that valuable thing.

Whether you become a paid or free subscriber, please know that I’m honored you find my words worth reading. And if you would like to be a paid subscriber but you can’t afford the cost, please reach out to me and I will gift you a paid subscription, no questions asked.

About me:

I’m Shohreh Davoodi (she/her). I’m an unapologetically queer writer and creator, and I’m currently working on my first novel. Besides Substack, I’m most active on Instagram, TikTok, and Threads.

As a neurodivergent Iranian-American lesbian, I'm no stranger to navigating intersections and margins. I write and create in order to better understand myself, the world that shaped me, and the changes I want to bring about in our culture. The topics I’m most drawn to are queerness and queer community (especially in taboo spaces like the South), self-trust, shifts in perspective, and my personal experiences.

I never shy away from bright colors and glitter. I'm a books, tea, and candles kind of queen with a splash of tattoos, an ear for harmonizing, and a desire to soak in the sun. When I’m not working, there’s a good chance you’ll find me relaxing in the bath, hiking, or lounging on the couch with my fiancée while watching Drag Race or doing a puzzle. And while I now happily reside in the Denver area, I’ll forever be a Texan at heart.
