I appreciate your patience as you’ve waited for my next queer book review. I only review books I really enjoy, and in addition to reading less lately because of how much I’ve had on my plate, I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump in 2024. But hopefully that’s changing!
Today’s queer book review is for Falling Back in Love with Being Human: Letters to Lost Souls by Kai Cheng Thom.
Genre: Lyrical poetry (or letters, or spells, or prayers, depending on who you ask)
CWs: Rape and sexual violence in sex work; suicide and suicidal ideation; transphobia and transmisogyny (and specifically, some J.K. Rowling stuff); police brutality; child abuse
Queer rep: Chinese transgender author
Summary: A collection of affirming poems and prompts meant to explore the world’s contradictions and the sacred nature of all humans, even when they make poor choices. These letters were written by the author during the early days of the pandemic as she tried to make sense of a chaotic world.
